DINOSAUR UNICORN: ALL ABOUT SIBERIAN UNICORNS

The genus Elasmotherium, also known as "Unicorn Dinosaur" or "Giant Siberian Unicorn", is an extinct species of rhinoceros that lived in Eurasia during the Upper Pliocene and Pleistocene.

After writing an article about Pegasus and mythical animals we will study the unicorn dinosaur unicorn. Its existence dates back to 2.6 million years ago, although its most recent fossils date back to about 29,000 years ago. The best known species of this genus, Elasmotherium sibiricum, was the size of a mammoth, was covered with hair and had a large horn on its forehead, hence its nickname "Siberian Unicorn". According to the first estimated descriptions, the beast was about 2 meters tall, 4.5 meters long and weighed an impressive 4 tons. Some specialists say it could be the source of the legend of the mythical unicorn, as it had a single horn, two meters long, pointed and thick. That is why it is also often called a giant unicorn.

The origins of this alleged unicorn dinosaur

It is an animal that inhabited the steppes of Russia and Central Asia and looked more like a rhinoceros than a horse. Until now, scientists thought that the animal had become extinct 350,000 years ago. However, analysis of a new fossilized skull found in the Pavlodar region of Kazakhstan indicates that the unicorn dinosaur became extinct 29,000 years ago. This delay of 300,000 years, which is already significant, also contains something vital, namely that the Siberian Unicorn is believed to have coincided in time with humans. Thus, we are far from the Jurassic period when the famous dinosaur Tyrannosaurus lived.... Its nickname Unicorn Dinosaur is therefore not entirely accurate.

The horn of this animal, scientifically known as Elasmotherium sibiricum, could be up to two meters long. In addition to its length, the horn is distinguished by its exceptional thickness and sharp appearance.

The remains of this animal have just been found in Kazakhstan and have caused a revolution due to its dating. However, it had a horn on its head about two meters long, thick and grayish. It was Sibiricu elasmotherium, an animal of the rhinoceros family thought to have become extinct 350,000 years ago and which, in light of the discovery of a well-preserved fossilized skull in Kazakhstan, actually lived until only 29,000 years ago. According to a study published this month in the American Journal of Applied Sciences, what is most surprising is that such an animal managed to survive until such a late period. The explanation lies in the region that gives it its name, Siberia, where the Unicorn Dinosaur could have taken refuge, in a suitable habitat for longer than in the rest of the planet. Researchers are trying to link environmental factors to the extinction of non-adapted species, which could help projections into the future. This animal differed from today's rhinoceros because it had a single horn, much longer and sharper, thicker at the base, probably the result of the fusion of the two horns of the species that has survived to the present day.

Unicorn Dinosaur: All about its extinction

Elasmotheres disappeared from fossils at the end of the Pleistocene, about 10,000 years ago, along with much of the northern hemisphere megafauna, which is considered the most likely extinction date for this presumed dinosaur (which is not, of course, a dinosaur). However, some claim that populations of this species may have survived for a few more millennia, giving rise to some of the beasts of Eurasian steppe folklore.
